The volume filter will look for keywords with a limited number of searches, while the TP filter will help make sure those keywords are specific topics and not just unpopular ways of looking for popular things.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sidenote\">\n<p>Sidenote.<\/p>\n<p> Since there is no set value that defines a niche keyword, we can\u2019t tell you the exact volume value here. It depends on the size of the market and how \u201cniche\u201d you want to go. For some markets, it can be 500. While for some very big markets, it may be 2000. So feel free to adjust the volume and TP filters. In simple terms, it\u2019s typically one of the\u00a0three:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Learn<\/strong> \u2013 If most pages focus on explaining things: guides, tutorials, reviews, comparisons, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Buy<\/strong> \u2013 If most pages directly offer products: product pages, product category pages, landing pages, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Go to a website or place<\/strong> \u2013 More often than not, keywords will contain the name of the product, brand, or\u00a0place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you can match search intent and it makes sense for your website, then the keyword is probably a good choice. But make sure to also <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/search-intent\/\">optimize your content for search intent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t match the search intent or it doesn\u2019t make sense for your website, it\u2019s probably best not to target the keyword for\u00a0now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To illustrate, the keyword \u201ccupcake soap\u201d has a clear transactional intent, with only product pages in the top 10. For example, we estimate that in order to rank in the top 10 for \u201cwhy is antibacterial soap banned,\u201d you\u2019ll need backlinks from ~123 websites. Google is aware of\u00a0that.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo\/glossary\/ymyl-pages\"><strong>YMYL<\/strong><\/a><strong> topics<\/strong> \u2013 Topics like health, finance, and safety will be tough, if not impossible, to rank for a website with no <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/topical-authority\/\">topical authority <\/a>and content written by people with no real <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/eat-seo\/\">expertise<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quality of content <\/strong>\u2013 If you can\u2019t add anything useful and original to the information that Google already \u201crecommends\u201d on the SERPs, you may have a harder time ranking. Make sure you can create <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/fundamentals\/creating-helpful-content\">helpful, reliable, and people-first content<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>See if top-ranking pages target the keyword<\/strong> \u2013 If no one is covering the topic directly, Google may show pages that it thinks are relevant.
