Start by fixing SEO issues<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>First things first. If you want to get more organic, you need to make sure\u00a0that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Google can <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo\/glossary\/crawlability\">crawl<\/a> (i.e., access) and <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo\/glossary\/indexability\">index<\/a> (i.e., list in a database) all your pages that should generate traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Your website adheres to the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=page+experience+signals&amp;oq=page+experience+signals&amp;aqs=chrome.0.69i59j0i512j0i390l2.3562j0j7&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8#:~:text=Understanding%20page%20experience,com%20%E2%80%BA%20...%20%E2%80%BA%20Documentation\">Page Experience signals<\/a>. Consolidate pages with the same target keyword and intent<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If two or more pages target the same keyword and the same <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/search-intent\/\">search intent<\/a>, they may hurt each other\u2019s organic performance. To investigate further, look at each keyword and find pages that meet these criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are at least 6 months old\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Intended to rank (don\u2019t use pages like \u201cAbout\u201d or otherwise valuable to the\u00a0user)<\/li>\n<li>Rank 4\u201320<\/li>\n<li>Are not targeting a unique keyword\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Are not targeting a unique search intent\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pages that meet the above criteria are the pages you should consolidate with your better-performing content. We did the same thing for two of our guides that were \u201ccannibalizing\u201d each other. Rewrite pages ranking below the top\u00a010<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pages that don\u2019t rank on the first page of Google get very little traffic. Here, we should tread lightly and bet on small, incremental changes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ideas that worked for\u00a0us:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adding missing subtopics<\/li>\n<li>Refreshing outdated information<\/li>\n<li>Adding an <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/faq-pages-seo\/\">FAQ section<\/a> (with questions mainly from Google\u2019s People Also Ask\u00a0box)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Making the content easier to digest (cutting irrelevant content, simplifying language, adding visuals)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Adding free resources (templates, checklists, etc)<\/li>\n<li>Adding internal links (more on this in the next section)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We usually start by comparing our and our competitors\u2019 content in our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/content-gap\">Content Gap tool<\/a>. This tool shows us keywords they rank for, but we don\u2019t. Boost important pages with internal links<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Internal links are links from one page on the same domain to another.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since internal links can pass <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/google-pagerank\/\">PageRank<\/a> (also referred to as \u201clink equity\u201d), you can add them from \u201cstronger\u201d\u00a0pages to \u201cweaker pages\u201d to boost\u00a0them.<\/p>\n<p>How do you know which pages have strong link profiles? Unfortunately, there\u2019s no way to check PageRank anymore. But there is a similar score in Ahrefs called URL Rating (UR).\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1382\" height=\"710\" Organize existing content into topic clusters\u00a0<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Topic clusters (aka content hubs) are interlinked pages about a particular subject designed to cover the subject in full and\u00a0rank.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re good for SEO because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grouping content can make it easier to find for crawlers.<\/li>\n<li>It may help to build <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/topical-authority\/\">topical authority<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>They create relevant internal links naturally.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The pillar page for the cluster may bring additional traffic (see example below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Plus, they\u2019re great for user experience since they make it easier for visitors to find your content.<\/p>\n<p>But before creating topic clusters from scratch, which can be pretty time consuming, try browsing through your existing content to see if it can be repurposed into a cluster.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s something we did for our <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/seo\">SEO guide<\/a>. We took existing articles (cluster pages) and linked them together via a new page (pillar page).\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" To do this, see if the top 10 ranking pages target the keyword directly. If yes, then it\u2019s probably a good opportunity. But use something other than Google because it always shows personalized (distorted) results one way or another. Sometimes, you may see results in a matter of days.
