It\u2019s not a one-to-one conversion\u2014you\u2019ll likely have to do some rewriting or editing so that the content fits the new format and platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So when you see someone like Gary Vaynerchuk expertly repurposing his content across all platforms, remember that he has a team. If you\u2019re doing it alone, you won\u2019t be able to repurpose every single piece of content.<\/p>\n<p>You need to prioritize.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The best way to do this is to repurpose content that targets evergreen topics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/evergreen-content\/\">Evergreen topics<\/a> are topics with consistent interest and search demand over time. Here are some examples of evergreen topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>How to lose weight<\/strong> \u2013 Since time immemorial, people have always been interested in losing weight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>How to tie a tie<\/strong> \u2013 So long as remote work is not the norm and formal attire is required, people will want to know how to tie a\u00a0tie.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Football scores<\/strong> \u2013 Fans will always be interested in knowing the scores of the latest game.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How do you know if your content is targeting a topic that\u2019s evergreen? This can live on your site as an ebook or you can go big and publish it as a hardback\/paperback.<\/p>\n<p>This is exactly what we did. Turn your content into Reddit posts<\/h3>\n<p>Marketers tend to skip out on Reddit because of the community\u2019s hatred for anything promotional.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Reddit needs content to thrive. Which means marketers are welcome, so long as the content they post is helpful and valuable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One way to do this is to publish a tl;dr version of your content and strip away all internal and external links. Reuse bits and pieces of your existing content as social media\u00a0posts<\/h3>\n<p>At Ahrefs, we create custom images to illustrate concepts for our written content. Not surprisingly, we also repurpose them on our social media accounts:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You can\u2019t guarantee a first-page Google ranking. Each tip, idea, solution, lesson, custom image, or takeaway in your content can be extracted and reused as a standalone post on social media.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12. Turn your conference slide decks into SlideShare decks<\/h3>\n<p>Creating slides for a conference is no walk in the park. Upload podcast episodes as YouTube videos<\/h3>\n<p>Your podcast may be in audio format, but that doesn\u2019t mean it can\u2019t work on YouTube. Here are three to be inspired by:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Ahrefs<\/h3>\n<p>Throughout the post, I\u2019ve included plenty of examples of how we\u2019ve approached content repurposing at Ahrefs. And the reason why I shared so many examples is that content repurposing is part of our modus operandi.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We walk the\u00a0talk.<\/p>\n<p>So even though we have separate content teams for our blog, YouTube channel, and socials, content repurposing is part of our process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>When <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/samsgoh?lang=en\">Sam Oh<\/a>, our head of video content, needs to write a script for a video, he checks our blog to see if there is content he can\u00a0reuse.<\/li>\n<li>When the blog team creates <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/blog-post-outline\/\">outlines<\/a>, we check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/ahrefscom\">YouTube channel<\/a> for content to repurpose (for example, I created my <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/holiday-seo\/\">post on holiday SEO<\/a> based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OJJXxc-9pBs\">Sam\u2019s video<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Every Twitter thread or long-form LinkedIn post is repurposed from our videos and blog posts (read this <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/ahrefs-twitter-marketing-strategy\/\">post on our Twitter strategy<\/a> to see how we do\u00a0it).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Sahil\u00a0Bloom<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\">Sahil Bloom<\/a> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/content-creator\/\">content creator<\/a> and investor. Here\u2019s an example of how he repurposes his content:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>He creates a <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/2Gzrq8SqH9LmTWO60NFZCg?si=ipZ047NUSAmS2b6knOvuBw\">podcast episode<\/a> for his chosen topic (\u201cHow to Get Out of a Rut\u201d). This is distributed to the major podcast platforms (e.g., Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify).<\/li>\n<li>He then turns the script into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sahilbloom.com\/newsletter\/how-to-get-out-of-a-rut\">newsletter<\/a> for his subscribers, and that\u2019s also published on his website as a blog\u00a0post.<\/li>\n<li>This is later on turned into a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1664252554295779329\">Twitter thread<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>He then turns it into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/sahilbloom_weve-all-been-there-youre-firing-on-all-activity-7070012337297973249-3pEi\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop\">long-form LinkedIn post<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Another example: Sahil first got a lot of attention from his thread on the Feynman Technique.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Feynman Technique is a foundational mental model for unlocking growth in your career, startup, business, or writing.<\/p>\n<p>A thread on how it works and how it can change your life\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7MFj3luEIr\">pic.twitter.com\/7MFj3luEIr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sahil Bloom (@SahilBloom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1358108840198168576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 6,\u00a02021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Look at how he has made the most of that piece of content:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>He republished the thread on <a href=\"https:\/\/sahilbloom.substack.com\/p\/the-feynman-technique\">his Substack<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>He turned it into multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1408401606463438856\">new<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1445817573430419462\">tweets<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1553717736932532224\">and<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1475096936395026434\">threads<\/a>, approaching them from slightly different angles.<\/li>\n<li>He also republished them on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/sahilbloom_the-feynman-technique-how-to-learn-anything-activity-6959485570393722880-aoho\/?trk=public_profile_like_view&amp;originalSubdomain=lk\">LinkedIn<\/a> and his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sahilbloom.com\/newsletter\/the-feynman-technique\">newsletter<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>He then added visual elements and turned that into a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SahilBloom\/status\/1662453471608446976\">new thread<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>This is then republished on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Cs1B_Jaudxg\/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">Instagram<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>With just one piece of content, he has likely got 6X\u20137X of the\u00a0value.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Red\u00a0Bull<\/h3>\n<p>Red Bull sells energy drinks. But it\u2019s also a content marketing machine. It has an entire media arm\u2014Red Bull Media House\u2014dedicated to producing content for TV, YouTube, music, films, print, and\u00a0more.<\/p>\n<p>These media properties are shared across all Red Bull verticals\u2014Red Bull itself, Red Bull [Country], Red Bull BC One (breakdancing), Red Bull Skateboarding, Red Bull Gaming, Red Bull Racing, etc.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because it owns the content and has teams behind it, its repurposing strategy is highly sophisticated. It\u2019s not simply doing one-to-one reposting and republishing, like the examples above. Rather, it\u2019s mixing footage in and out of different videos, compilations, reels, TikToks, and\u00a0more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For example, the event footage for Red Bull BC One\u2014a prestigious event for breaking\u2014culminates in multiple compilation videos like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=APnrbfFaF2E\">this<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X0tQFsZ3T1w\">this<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QU91VeSqlSg\">that<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final thoughts<\/h2>\n<p>Repurposing should not be an afterthought\u2014instead, it should be baked into the creation process.
