It\u2019s now been wrapped into a new product: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connectively.us\/\">Connectively<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>I know nothing about the new tool. I haven\u2019t tried it. But after trying to use HARO recently, I can\u2019t say I\u2019m surprised or saddened by its death. It worked. It didn\u2019t take long before I lost the will to live. Who writes like that? I\u2019m a self-confessed dullard (any fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/dullmensclub\/\">Dull Men\u2019s Club<\/a> members here?), and even I\u2019m not <em>that<\/em> dull\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t think I looked through more than 30-40 of the responses. I just couldn\u2019t bring myself to do it. Given how knowledgeable and experienced he is (he actually taught me a lot about SEO back in the day when I used to hassle him with questions on Skype), this pitch rang alarm bells for two reasons:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I truly doubt he spends his time replying to HARO queries<\/li>\n<li>I know for a fact he\u2019s no fan of Neil Patel (sorry, Neil, but I\u2019m sure you\u2019re aware of your reputation at this\u00a0point!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> So\u2026 I decided to confront him\u00a0\ud83d\ude09\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Here\u2019s what he\u00a0said:\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1378\" height=\"972\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed.png\" alt=\"Hunch, confirmed ;)\" class=\"wp-image-174300\" style=\"width:379px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed.png 1378w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed-603x425.png 603w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed-768x542.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1378px) 100vw, 1378px\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1378\" height=\"972\" src=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed.png\" alt=\"Hunch, confirmed ;)\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-174300\" style=\"width:379px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed.png 1378w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed-603x425.png 603w, https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/hunch-confirmed-768x542.png 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1378px) 100vw, 1378px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p> Shocker.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> I pressed him for more details:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I\u2019m getting a really good deal and paying per link rather than the typical \u00a3xxxx per month for X number of pitches. [\u2026] The responses as you\u2019ve seen are not ideal but that\u2019s a risk I\u2019m prepared to take as realistically I dont have the time to do it myself. He\u2019s not native english, but I have had to have a word with him a few times about clearly using AI. On the low cost ones I don\u2019t care but on authority sites it needs to be more refined.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p> I think this pretty much sums up the state of HARO before its death. Most \u201cpitches\u201d were just AI answers from SEOs trying to build links for their clients.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Don\u2019t get me wrong. I\u2019m not throwing shade here. I know that good links are hard to come by, so you have to do what works. And the reality is that HARO <em>did<\/em> work. Just look at the example below. HARO worked so well back in the day that it was only a matter of time before spammers and the #scale crew ruined it for everyone. That\u2019s what happened, and now HARO is no more.\u00a0So\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re a link builder<\/strong>, I think it\u2019s time to admit that HARO link building is dead and move\u00a0on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> No tactic works well forever. It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/andrewchen.com\/the-law-of-shitty-clickthroughs\/\">the law of sh**ty clickthroughs<\/a>. This is why you don\u2019t see SEOs having huge success with tactics like <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/broken-link-building\/\">broken link building<\/a> anymore. They\u2019ve moved on to <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/link-building-case-study\/\">more innovative tactics<\/a> or, dare I say it, are just <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/buy-backlinks\/\">buying links<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sidenote\">\n<p>Sidenote.<\/p>\n<p> Talking of buying links, here\u2019s something to ponder: if Connectively charges for pitches, are links built through those pitches technically paid? If so, do they violate <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/essentials\/spam-policies\">Google\u2019s spam policies<\/a>? It\u2019s a murky old world this SEO lark,\u00a0eh?<\/div>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re a journalist<\/strong>, Connectively might be worth a shot. But with experts being charged for pitches, you probably won\u2019t get as many responses. That might be a good thing. You might get less spam. Or you might just get spammed by SEOs with deep pockets. The jury\u2019s out for\u00a0now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> My advice? Look for alternative methods like finding and reaching out to experts directly.
