Outsourcing parts of your content creation can help ease the workload.<\/p>\n<p>So, what do you need to know when outsourcing content? These are the most important considerations:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What it costs to outsource content<\/li>\n<li>What to look for when outsourcing content<\/li>\n<li>What risks are there with outsourcing content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-179084-_op66t5yeyx3h\"\/>Cost<\/h4>\n<p>The cost of outsourcing content can vary a lot. You can pay as little as a few dollars or thousands of dollars per article. It depends on your budget.<\/p>\n<p>Ahrefs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LCmcW2kpLjg\">study into cheap vs expensive freelance writers<\/a> revealed that the median cost of a writer was ~$0.15 per word. I usually pay ~$0.20 upwards for content. The reason: I\u2019ve learned through experience that <em>very<\/em> cheap content, although tempting, often requires a lot of editing.<\/p>\n<p>This, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of outsourcing SEO in the first place\u2014as you either have to edit yourself or hire an editor. Sometimes, it\u2019s just better to get a decent writer the first time around.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-179084-_mbhqbnx4w4x8\"\/>What to look\u00a0for<\/h4>\n<p>Here are the key things I looked for when hiring content writers at my previous SEO agency:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Understands the content brief and requires minimal \u201chand holding\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Native-language speaker<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in writing about the\u00a0topic<\/li>\n<li>Responsive to feedback<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-179084-_w34tfw11dt56\"\/>Potential risks<\/h4>\n<p>There are three key risks of outsourcing content:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AI or automation<\/strong> \u2013 The cheaper your content writer is, the higher the chances they may be using automation or AI to create the content. Ask your writers <em>how<\/em> they create their content. Using AI doesn\u2019t mean your content <em>won\u2019t<\/em> rank in Google, but it is something to be aware of because your writer may not have even reviewed the content themselves<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yawn-inducing content that sends your readers into a coma \u2013 <\/strong>Freelance writers are less invested in your brand, so they may not convey much personality in their writing. Define tasks clearly from the start to ensure desired outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Create SOPs to define <em>exactly<\/em> what you want delivered. Otherwise, you will not get the desired output.<\/p>\n<p>For basic tasks, you can create a basic SOP for free using a tool like Google Docs, Trello, or Notion.
