How frequently do pages ranking in the SERPs get cited in AI Overviews?<\/p>\n

We analyzed 1.9M citations last year<\/a> in an attempt to answer that question.<\/p>\n

But, as with everything AI-related, a lot has changed since\u00a0then.<\/p>\n

For instance, as of January 2026, AI Overviews are now powered by Gemini 3<\/a>\u00a0to better answer searchers\u2019 long-tail questions\u2014having previously relied on earlier Gemini models, including 2.5 variants.<\/p>\n

Since that last study we\u2019ve also improved our parsing methodology in Ahrefs, so that we can see even more of the citations that appear in AI Overviews.<\/p>\n

So, we decided it was time to update our findings to better answer that initial question.<\/p>\n

This time around, we analyzed 863K keyword SERPs, and a grand total of 4M AI Overview URLs\u2014over double our last analysis.<\/p>\n

All of this data was taken from Ahrefs Brand Radar<\/a>, our AI visibility tool.<\/p>\n
